About the artist
René Mäkelä.
René Alvarez Mäkelä is a Spanish artist working from his studio in the Santa Catalina district of Palma de Mallorca. His creative universe is built around pop icons, drawing inspiration from fashion, street culture, film, television, and music to produce works that sit at the intersection of Pop Art and Street Art.
Painting on large-format canvases using oils, acrylics, and mixed textures, Mäkelä is best known for his signature fluorescent portrait palette, a vibrant, high-energy approach that earned critical and public acclaim with his Pop Icons series.
His work has been exhibited in galleries across Los Angeles, New York, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Madrid, and Barcelona, and counts among its collectors NBA and NFL players, Madonna, Pope Francis, and Formula 1 world champion Jorge Lorenzo.
